In July, I interviewed Jennifer Michael Hecht, author of the new book "Stay: A History of Suicide and the Philosophies Against it."   Ms. Hecht is a philosopher, teacher, poet, historian and the author of seven books, including three books of poetry and four works on philosophy, including "Stay".

Ms. Hecht was inspired to write this inspirational book after the suicides of two of her poet colleagues.  In the book, she looks at the ethics around suicide, the cultural and religious arguments about it, and the causes and effects of suicide.  Ms. Hecht's book is far from neutral on the topic of suicide: the book delivers the same message it bears on its cover: "Stay. We need you with us."
This is my latest segment on the theme of "Broken and Half Full," conversations on darkness and hope.  I hope you'll find inspiration and food for thought in this interview.
